 LITTLE WOMEN ATELIER In the 2020s, cottagecore has come into its own as a slower-paced fashion statement taking inspiration from classic eras and literature, bringing some of the most beautiful feminine clothing with it.  I was on Pinterest one day when I stumbled upon the cutest picture of a girl wearing a ruffled linen apron over a Peter Pan collar dress, I was intrigued and clicked the link to the Etsy shop where I discovered Little Women Atelier! I LOVE little women! The shop turns the fashion from the movies into wearable modern clothing for every day, you could wear these dresses out without anyone batting an eyelid but they still retain the quality of old-fashionedness that lends a timelessness to the pieces, these are clothes made to last through changing fashions. Emma comes to the silver screen once again in 2020 to re-delight viewers with a fresh new take on the tale.  This version immediately got notice from the costuming community with many proclaiming it the best costume adaption of Emma out of all adaptions so far.  Published in December 1815,  the directors of the movie appear to have set it to begin somewhere between 1815-1817, so to clarify that is a bit later than most Austen adaptions so far with most being set between 1795-1813.  Historical influences in cinderella 2015 Whilst Cinderella is technically a fantasy, the costume designers of the 2015 version definitely gave a huge nod to historical dress, with inspirations from the 17th century, the 1840s, the 1860s, and the 1950s to name a few!  I LOVE the costumes in this film so much and I think they are some of the most cinematic, beautiful works in the history of film. Let's have a look at some of these examples... 1. Cinderella's mother. Here is Hayley Atwell as Cinderella's Mother wearing what looks like an 1840s/50s -inspired dress. This dress from the 1850s has the same smooth wide neckline and short sleeves as Hayley's dress! See the pointed bodice that too is a feature of Hayley's dress. Notice that Hayley's dress had a smocked front, the smocked form was in high fashion in the 1850s. Look!
