High Society 1956 Costume & Movie review

 High Society

Well, firstly: the movie.

As a Christian, I cannot condone the actions of the characters in this movie other than the steadfastness of Dexter's One Girl mindset, all the characters behave in a shockingly atrocious manner toward each other, and the only surprize of the entire film was that none of the characters were outraged at Tracy's behaviour.

Despite a PG rating, This Movie is NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN.

That is unless you want your children to grow up thinking it's okay, to treat other people with total disrespect and carelessness toward their future. Unless you want them to believe that getting drunk and flirting heavily with men when your A) divorced, and B) engaged, is fine!

For Tracy to be attempting to get married after a divorce is directly contradicting Jesus when he said that although divorce is permitted, marriage is not allowed whilst your husband/wife is still alive. Now for those who think that Jesus was wrong, let me explain how loving such a command is. It especially protected the dignity of women of the era. In those days it was much more common for a man to get a writ of divorce for just about anything he wanted, but not for the women, who had to have the man's permission before getting a divorce, so when a man was displeased with his wife or tired of her, he could essentially just chuck her out. And this way out of a tiresome marriage was made even more attractive in that they could marry girls much much younger to replace the wife of their youth. This made it especially hard for women of the time, who had little means of their own to make their own way, especially if their own family had passed on. So these rules Jesus put on divorce make the men really think before casting aside the wife of their youth. And also protects the women by saying that they may divorce if their husband is committing sexual immorality. So in reality Jesus' rules as usual are made to bring us even more love.

However there were some funny parts, and the songs were classic 50s Hollywood, and she did end up getting back together with her original husband.

I will now move on to the

COSTUMES

which were, Gorgeous! As most 1950s styles are...

Here is each of her costumes worn in the movie, I must say the top row white one is, amazingly, used as a bathing cover-up! I know right! How can such a beautiful dress be a bathing cover-up. It really made me want to work out how to make one for myself!

 So ladylike and lovely.

My other favourite must be her blue floaty day dress, so girly!

I love the way it fans out when she sits!

Her wedding dress is in a similar style, chic!
