Emma: Novel Review By Grace Bertram

Image
REVIEW: by Grace Bertram Jane Austen’s Emma is an ongoing delight today, just as when it was penned two centuries ago and first published in 1816. Snugly fitted into the novel genre, EMMA’s various subgenres are proof of the writer’s multi-talented genius. Ronald Blythe described EMMA as “the happiest of love stories, the most fiendishly difficult of detective stories and a matchless repository of English wit.”  The narrative structure of Emma is strictly linear - from start to finish, we see events unfold in a chronological order. As with all Austen’s works, the brilliance of the story lies in the strength of character development. It’s been said that the reason why Jane Austen’s books have stood the test of time is because they are more about the people than the events - events change, but people are still the same. This means that her character arcs, poignant messages, witty irony and humourous satire are largely relevant even today. We can all learn something from Austen’s chara

Atumnal Vintage Vibe and Poem "From without and In"

I sit and think of all the comforts From without and In. And Ponder on this blessed home  From without and In. The comfort of a warming fire And sometime Chestnut's too. The soft singing of a choir, Of which numbers two. Of, fluffy socks and cups of tea which warms From without and in Of all pursuits of Autumnal kind From without and In so for each day, we should begin with thankful hearts to pray, For that blessing which doth come From without and in. High Society 1956 Costume & Movie review

Image
High Society Well, firstly: the movie. As a Christian, I cannot condone the actions of the characters in this movie other than the steadfastness of Dexter's One Girl mindset, all the characters behave in a shockingly atrocious manner toward each other, and the only surprize of the entire film was that none of the characters were outraged at Tracy's behaviour.  Despite a PG rating, This Movie is NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. That is unless you want your children to grow up thinking it's okay, to treat other people with total disrespect and carelessness toward their future. Unless you want them to believe that getting drunk and flirting heavily with men when your A) divorced, and B) engaged, is fine!  For Tracy to be attempting to get married after a divorce is directly contradicting Jesus when he said that although divorce is permitted, marriage is not allowed whilst your husband/wife is still alive. Now for those who think that Jesus was wrong, let me explain how loving such

Modesty for the Bridal/Prom dress

Image
What happens when Christian girls try to find modest prom or bridal wear? Well, usually they are limited to classic lines with either round or boat necks, with v neck being too low to choose and ditto for scoop necks. Short sleeves are usually paired with a low neckline or are modest but have a plain satin fabric. Now a classic style isn't bad. But when the same styles are used over and over sometimes a girl just wants to be unique! Which is why I've created a whole bridal interest board full of unique modest styles I have collected over the years. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/chrisyoungoutdo/bridal-stuff/ Here's the link but to give a small sample of the styles a few are pictured below. Short sleeves and a V neck. A slinky halterneck but without an immodest keyhole neckline! Modest but with added drama for any Christian drama queens! An ethereal dress for those who love natural floaty styles. More classic but embellished with beads! For lace lovers! And of course plenty o

Little Women Atelier

Image
LITTLE WOMEN ATELIER In the 2020s, cottagecore has come into its own as a slower-paced fashion statement taking inspiration from classic eras and literature, bringing some of the most beautiful feminine clothing with it.  I was on Pinterest one day when I stumbled upon the cutest picture of a girl wearing a ruffled linen apron over a Peter Pan collar dress, I was intrigued and clicked the link to the Etsy shop where I discovered Little Women Atelier! I LOVE little women! The shop turns the fashion from the movies into wearable modern clothing for every day, you could wear these dresses out without anyone batting an eyelid but they still retain the quality of old-fashionedness that lends a timelessness to the pieces, these are clothes made to last through changing fashions. But it is not only about the clothing. On YouTube, the family behind the Little Women atelier also want to promote a slower lifestyle where you take the time to be present at the moment and enjoy life, to admire the
